Whale for MAC

Free, open-source unofficial Trello app for Apple Silicon Macs: your Trello boards in their own window, with Home, Back and Forward shortcuts.

Whale Overview

Whale is an unofficial desktop app for Trello. It opens Trello in its own window, so your boards sit in the Dock and the app switcher instead of in a browser tab. It is built with Electron and shows the Trello website itself, so you sign in with your Trello account and everything you do happens on Trello. Whale remembers its window size and position, reopens the page you had open, and has keyboard shortcuts for going Home, Back and Forward. Links to other sites open in your normal browser.

Whale is free and open source under the MIT license, made by Shogo Sensui, and it is not made by or connected with Trello. Version 3.0.0 is a maintenance release. The Mac download is for Apple Silicon only, with no Intel build in this release, and the app needs macOS 12 or later. A warning before you install: Homebrew disabled its Whale cask because the app fails macOS's Gatekeeper check, so macOS may refuse to open it. The app needs an internet connection and a Trello account to be useful.

Key Features

Whale gives Trello a window of its own on your Mac.

  • Trello in a window: the full Trello website, away from your browser tabs.
  • History shortcuts: Home with Command-Shift-H, Back with Command-[, Forward with Command-].
  • Remembers your place: reopens the page you had open.
  • Remembers the window: keeps its size and position between launches.
  • Stays ready: closing the window hides the app rather than quitting it.
  • Outside links: links that open a new window go to your default browser.
  • Zoom and reload: full screen, zoom in and out, and reload from the View menu.
  • Update checks: looks for a new release when it starts.
